BR&D promotes actions to reconcile human development and environmental change. BR&D is an independent non-profit organisation which was established in 2001 to promote and regulate Plan Vivo activities. It is a Scottish company limited by guarantee, which is managed by its board of directors.
BR&D has formed a Co-operative Offset Group (COG) of individuals and organisations who are interested in promoting voluntary carbon offsets.
BR&D is the secretariat of the 3 Conventions Partnership: - an initiative to promote learning through specific actions in support of the UN conventions on climate change, desertification and biodiversity.

Plan Vivo is a system for the planning and implementation of community-based land use and sustainable energy projects. Plan Vivo projects can be used to deliver defined environmental services, such as carbon credits or watershed protection, livelihood benefits, increased agricultural productivity, and sustainably produced products.
BR&D maintains the Plan Vivo standards and guidelines and controls the registration of projects and the certification of project outputs.
