Overview of our work

BioClimate practically assists organisations to develop ecosystem programmes and projects with rural communities. Two overarching objectives lie at the heart of what we do, namely to:

  1. Reduce poverty and environmental degradation in rural communities, and thereby improve their social and ecological resilience
  2. Transfer skills and knowledge to organisations and make it affordable for them to develop ecosystem programmes and projects with rural communities

Most programmes and projects we work on link payment mechanisms to the generation of ecosystem services. This creates a direct and positive relationship between actions, results and benefits. Most programmes and projects are developed using the Plan Vivo System and Standard.

Much of our project development support revolves around training and organisational development as well as the creation of project tools. A further area of work involves policy and other research and advice. We work with partners to help understand, navigate and influence government policy on REDD+ and the importance of community rights and community-based approaches to land management. We also participate in applied research projects aimed at improving community ecosystem management practices.
